THE Australian men's hockey team must today decide on the fitness of midfielders Robbie Hammond and Nathan Eglington.

The pair sat out last night's 5-1 practice match victory over South Africa with leg injuries, and neither has trained properly since Sunday, although Hammond ran strongly during a training session and did some more sprint work before the game.

Jamie Dwyer, who has recently overcome a foot injury, and defender Bevan George, who has recovered from a back complaint, both featured prominently in Australia's emphatic win over the South Africans, who will play in the Kookaburras' crossover pool in Melbourne.

Matthew Wells, who missed matches last month with a hamstring injury, also moved comfortably in defence.

Defender Luke Doerner scored three times for the Australians from penalty corners, powering a low first-half shot past the South African keeper and dribbling through a second just after half-time.

Jamie Dwyer made it 3-1 midway through the second half before Michael McCann and Doerner added some gloss to the final score with goals in the last minute.
